One Skein Secret Pals Exchange
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Secret Pal Home | About | Buttons | FAQ | Timeline, Rules & Final Agreement

Is there a minimum contribution?
There’s no minimum contribution, but don’t be cheap! It’s okay if one of your skeins is a “great find” and not expensive, but it would be nice to include a note explaining why you love that skein. Skeins should be new or in perfect condition, with label attached. Ideally they would not be off the market or “retired” so that your Pal could purchase more for a larger project.

How do I contact my pal?
When you have been assigned a Secret Pal, please e-mail him/her a greeting (from your anonymous e-mail address) so he/she will know there’s been a match. You may write your Pal as much or as little as you like via e-mail, but the most important correspondence is the letter with your One Skein mailing.

When should I send my skeins?
You must make contact with your Pal by sending a single skein in June and July—early in the month is best. Skeins can be shipped inexpensively in bubble mailers available in office supply and drug stores. You should also send your Pal an e-mail once per month to stay in touch. Remember to use your anonymous e-mail when contacting your Pal. It is hoped that as we draw closer to August, you will have an idea of your Pal’s likes and dislikes so that you can tailor your final single skein knitted or crocheted gift especially for him/her. But don’t wait until the last minute to start making your handknitted or hand-crocheted piece. The deadline for the final shipment is August 31, 2006.

Also, don’t forget to let your secret pal know when you’ve received his/her package—either by direct e-mail or by posting a note on your blog or website.

What if something happens and I can’t continue in the exchange after I’ve been assigned my Pal?
Please send us an e-mail immediately so we can find a replacement for you.

What if my Pal isn’t contacting me or sending me my monthly packages?
Again, let us know immediately so we can try to find you a replacement. Things happen—we’ll try to get to the bottom of it. Also, please let US know instead of using your blog or website to condemn your Pal.

If someone does fail to participate as they agreed, we will remove their name from the participation list. Note in our initial sign-up questionnaire that we’re looking for Secret Pal Ambassadors who are willing to jump in as replacements if called upon.
